Supplying Switchgear for the Northern Line Extension

Work started on the Northern Line Extension Project back in 2014 and opened to the public on Monday 20th September 2021. The 3km twin-tunnel extension links Kennington Station with both Battersea Power Station and Nine Elms, providing access to the West End and the City within 15 minutes.

During this seven year project, Craig & Derricott were selected to supply their range of TFL / LUL approved switchgear and Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS) which have been installed throughout the tube extension.

The products supplied have been designed and developed to meet the stringent requirements of Section 12 of the fire precautions act and S1085 requirements. Our extensive range of LUL products covers switch disconnectors, fuse combination units and automatic transfer switches which can all be view here on our website or in our downloadable catalogue.

Depending on the equipment required we can offer our switchgear in either die-cast aluminium, powder coated sheet steel or stainless steel. All units are designed in accordance with EN60947-3 and meet IP65 ingress protections. For the Northern Line Extension project we supplied:

  • Large quantities of our 25A & 40A isolators in both red and grey die-cast aluminium enclosures,
  • A variety of our isolation equipment supplied in IP65 hinged door sheet steel enclosures,
  • Over 70 automatic transfer switches (ATS) rated 32A up to 630A. All ATS units supplied included two separate isolators built-in, providing the ability to isolate both supplies as well as a DSE controller unit.

Despite all the constraints brought upon us from the impact from COVID-19, we continued to supply all switchgear required for the build through the pandemic and provided ongoing engineering support and commissioning on our units.

Here at Craig & Derricott, meeting customer specifications is very important to us. It is why we are so proud of our design engineering team. It is this team that allows us to continue working on developing new products and service that are required within the industry. We have a new commissioning service available for all our ATS units. Any ATS equipment tested and registered with C&D will qualify for a 2 year extended warranty offer on the units. The 2-year warranty will commence from the date of commissioning if this date is within 12 months of the date of despatch.
